Talk To Us: who are we?

For millions of years, mankind lived just like animals.
Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination.
We learned to talk.

Pink Floyd, "Keep Talking" (The Division Bell, 1994)

Why we're doing this

Signal2Noise is a non-commercial, non-profit journal of research and opinion for the professional audio community.

It is a project of the Program in Sound Recording Technology (SRT) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The SRT program is recognized as one of the premier training centers for students entering the field of professional audio. Umass Lowell is a public university.

The goals of Signal2Noise include:

  • Providing a forum for new ideas and research
  • Promoting intelligent and informative discussions about topics in professional audio
  • Facilitating the exchange of ideas between manufacturers and users, without the restrictions imposed by advertising
  • Providing a single, unbiased source for information about Internet-based audio delivery systems, as well as a central point of access to those technologies
  • Entertaining the industry with good jokes, horror stories, links to worthwhile sites, and other useful ephemera.

What we will not do is:

  • Review or profile specific products
  • Print press releases or marketing materials
  • Print any old irrelevant nonsense that people send us
  • Allow personal attacks on any individuals or institutions
  • Let commercial interests influence us in any way
  • Accept any advertising

For more information on the people behind Signal2Noise, go to our Staff page. If you would like to contribute an article to Signal2Noise, go to our Writer's Guidelines page. If you would like to see what we're publishing, jump right in at the Articles page.

Drop us a line and let us know how we're doing, or respond to any of the articles through the Talkback buttons.

Thanks for joining us in this project. Your participation will determine how well it succeeds.
